Welcome

We are happy to welcome you to the Kagyu Samye Dzong Scarborough website and we hope that it will be of benefit to you

Who We Are

We are a very warm and friendly group, we are very open, we are Buddhist and non-Buddhist, what is most important to us is that anyone can come and feel welcomed and learn to meditate and be in a quiet and compassionate space without judgement or pressure. In this space people can find peace within themselves and learn to face life's difficulties with courage and a calmer, happier heart and mind.
We are a pure Tibetan lineage of the Karma Kagyu tradition, we have exemplary teachers, some of the finest in the world and we are guided by the most profound wisdom and compassion of Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche and Akong Choje Tulku Rinpoche who established the beautiful Samye Ling monastery in Scotland, the oldest and largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the West.

News:

We are currently fundraising to purchase a more suitable centre here in Scarborough so we can help more people. As more and more people are turning to the Dharma, meditation, compassion and mindfulness in search of help, aid and relief from the difficulties being experienced both globally and personally our heartfelt wish is to be able to help. The benefits of a centre for World peace and health in Scarborough would be wonderful not just for Scarborough but for the region as a whole and for all those seeking peace in their lives.
If you would like to help us and pledge a small amount of £5 each month so we can help create a beautiful centre here in Scarborough and help more people in Scarborough and the UK. People come from all over the country to the centres Akong Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche have established because they are of such benefit to individuals and communities. If you would like to be part of this wonderful and precious project then please see our ' How to Help ' page.

Many people find meditation very beneficial and want to have a place of quiet and refuge away from the demands of their busy lives. So all our aims are about helping people by providing a peaceful environment within which to meditate, develop mindfulness or to learn about Buddhism and feel supported in a compassionate space. We have exemplary teachers who are helping to bring the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, insight, wisdom and compassion into peoples everyday lives and it is such a precious opportunity to not only be able to benefit our own lives now but to be of benefit for others also in the future. All are welcome, whether you're interested in developing a calmer and happier mind or you wish to study Buddhism more deeply or to learn about mindfulness and compassion, or to come for Chenrezig prayers to help alleviate suffering and develop compassion. You don't need to be a Buddhist or become a Buddhist we are centre here for all, to be of benefit through wisdom, loving kindness and compassion.

One Year Mindfulness Training Programme has now begun and the second module is in February, it has been very successful and so we are now following on with the One Year Compassion Training which will begin in September 2012.
If you would like to join please look at the Mindfulness Training page under  ' Courses '.

Bardo Group for people who are ill or dying:

We would like to start a Bardo Group for people who are ill or dying, so that we can offer a voluntary support service to fellow Buddhists, and those that have an interest in Buddhist beliefs during times of illness or as they approach their passing from this life. We would like to offer the services of spiritual assistance, practical help, information for families, carers, medical practitioners and undertakers about the compassionate treatment of a dying Buddhist, Buddhist prayers at funerals and monthly prayers at our centre in Scarborough. If you are a practising Buddhist and would like to be involved with the Bardo group then please contact ani Tselha This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. ROKPA Travels 2012 - Footprints of the Karmapas - Eastern Tibetan areas

In August 2012 Catherine Brown is planning to take a group to the eastern Tibetan areas to visit many of the spiritually significant sites connected with the Karmapas – including the birthplace of the 1st Karmapa, and monasteries established by the 1st Karmapa, Dusum Khyenpa, and the 2nd Karmapa, Karma Pakshi (atop the sacred Punri Mountain). Along the way we shall also visit meditation caves of Guru Rinpoche and the Karmapas. A highlight of the trip will be visiting the Parkhang printing works in Derge, which houses a vast set of wooden printing blocks containing all Buddhist teachings and texts. We shall also stay a couple of days at Palpung monastery, spending time in the shedra and visiting Jamgon Kontrul’s monastery nearby where the relics of the 1st and 3rd Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoches are kept. Depending on the availability of travel permits in 2012, we may be able to visit spiritually significant sites around Chamdo and visit the sacred peaks of Kawa Karpo.
